ABOUT US

Cocina Calle is literally a dream come true. Alex always wanted to open his own business. Zack traveled to El Salvador and fell in love with the cuisine. Being friends for years, our dream came together quickly. We came up with the idea of Cocina Calle and ran.

We’re so excited to bring our flair of the traditional pupusa to the Richmond area!

MEET THE TEAM

Zack Phifer

ZACK
PHIFER

Founder

Ever since he could see above the countertops at home with his Mother, Zack has always had an interest in food and cooking. A native to the Richmond, VA area, Zack grew up in Chesterfield County attending Midlothian High School. After high school, Zack moved to Charlotte, NC to attend Johnson & Wales University. At J & W, he studied culinary arts and baking & pastry, graduating with an AAS in Culinary Arts. Before leaving Johnson & Wales he landed a job with Dega Catering, which he still holds today.

He has traveled all over the US and Canada with Dega cooking for various acclaimed touring groups from Dave Matthews Band, Usher, Nitro Circus, Zac Brown Band, Bruno Mars, Shania Twain, to WWE and many others. He aspires now to bring great food to RVA and the surrounding areas.

Alex Britland

ALEX BRITLAND

Founder

A land surveyor by day, food truck owner by night. Cooking has always been an escape for Alex. Since childhood, he has always loved coming up with new ideas in the kitchen. Growing up in Maine and moving to Virginia he has had the pleasure of experiencing some of the best cuisines on the east coast. Alex is excited to step outside of the box to bring some Latin American flair to the Richmond area.

Monica Britland

MONICA BRITLAND

Founder

Monica graduated from John Tyler Community College with an Associate's degree in Business Management in 2011. You will find her working front-of-the-house operations with a friendly smile. She looks forward to helping Alex and Zack grow in the food truck industry!
